"Gone are the days when customers were given verbal warnings about non-violent infractions; MTA Police officers now issue citations as a matter of course. There’s greater collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, which gives MTA PD officers increased oversight on follow-up of summonses, arrests and investigations."

NY citations are not taken lightly. Ignore it, and a bench warrant can be issued.

Years later, you can be picked up for contempt of court, or find your vehicle registration was suspended. As you watch your vehicle being towed.

In spite of what MTA claims, they are selective about how much NYPD service they use in the subway. It used to be you'd always see cops in the subway at night. Not so much anymore.

NJ has the same problem with warrants, but the police are selective in enforcing the law.

My nephew blew off a parking ticket, and East Orange suspended the vehicle registration.

Later, he was pulled over in Westfield for suspended registration. The officer told him to straighten it out. Cost him a bundle.

Hats off to MTA Police!
My last visit a few years ago  to birthplace Staten Island showed cleaner, much better maintained and lit city subway stations, new, air conditioned cars, orderly riders.

No autos have been carried on the SI Ferry since 9/11, boats are escorted by Coast Guard patrols during threats.

Sure beats the dark, loud, subway days of years ago.

Some years ago, they merged LIRR police and MN police into MTA police. I don't know what they had on SIRTOA, under the B&O, then under MTA. They also have a police precinct in the Bridgeport, CT rail station. So, they are NY-based, yet function in Connecticut as well.
