NJ: woman takes up two seats, doesn't end well
Author: Lackawanna484

A woman on NEC train standing room only train 3985 placed her stuff on the seat next to her, and refused to allow anyone to sit there.

"You're disgusting"
"I don't want your filthy bedbugs"

Eventually the situation made it to Twitter, a"train official intervened without effect, and NJT police met the train.  Doesn't seem she even received a ticket.

Not clear whether she is a garden variety nut job, a religious zealot, or what.

!00:1 odds she'll play the gender/race card if she's ticketed for her bahavior. Hopefully the NJT Police gave her a citation for her discourteous/rude display and her use of foul language??

Let's all assume the worst....shall we? That way we can excuse our own behavior for assuming she will do the race/gender thing.

The woman was clearly rude, we can all agree. Her exit was widely cheered, no doubt by people of all gender and political beliefs who were in that car and watched the drama unfold.

She would be the type to get physical, then claim she was assaulted. I wouldn't try it. Best thing to do with psychotic individual is keep your distance.

I've been told that she was given a citation and is due in court in March. Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll fail to show and have a bench warrant issued. We can hope.

Ross,

She will take the train to her court date. When she is thrown off, again, her attorney will be waiting for another cash injection.

Yup, it would be a good thing for our justice system to properly sanction such miscreants.  And, props to the passengers and crew for bringing her to justice.

She'll be talking to AOC and will get that "entitled" permanent free 2 seat check.

NJ can be a very civilized place. Once in a while.

On the NYC subway, she would have been sliced into bite sized scraps. With no witnesses in a crowded subway car...

NYC Subway ? No problem. They'd have thrown her on her ass out the door at the next stop, especially in the Bronx or Brooklyn.

I think you're in danger of pissing off New Yorkers everywhere......why wait for a stop to throw her off?

As it should be.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said some things in recent weeks which given me heartburn, but her not her views on transportation.

Rather than making unsubstantiated claims about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, why not focus your attention on the Congresswoman's views concerning public investment in rail transit?  So far, it appears she favors greater federal investment in public transit (based on one line in the Green Deal resolution).  When many TO members seem to think that politicians are indifferent to public transit, this view should be lauded, unless you are one of those believe that effective public transit systems are unnecessary.

Good question.  My answer?  When you vote for a person based on a single issue, the unintended consequences of your vote can be mind numbing.  She supports rail!  Awesome.  But because she does not support so many other things that I see as important, I could never vote for someone like her.

A good example of my philosophy in politics:  In 1984 I knew that if Reagan was re-elected, he would put out a zero dollar budget request for Amtrak for the next four years.  However, I felt that his overall business and economic policies were sound and that American was generally happy.  I put my trust in Congress to keep Amtrak going, and they did.

My point is that it is dangerous to be a single issue voter.  If I were a single issue voter, I would not have voted for Reagan.  To this day, I am glad that I did.
