True, LD trains are not a profitable business model. (Neither is any passenger train of any sort).

Bad equipment utilization ? I don't think so. Amfleet-2's have much more mileage on them tnan Amfleet-1, and are 7 years newer.

Corridor cars like Horizon have far more mileage on them than their NJT Comet-II clones. The majority of commuter rail cars are idle off peak.

Utilization and accrued equipment milage are not the same thing.

Mr. Moorman is being the diplomat he always is. Doesn't take much reading between the lines to get his core message that Amtrak never had a chance of being " profitable" as its core structure makes that impossible. Just plain old common sense tells you that.

Moorman was just another loser, as far as doing Amtrak any good.. Sorry we had to listen to him again.

He made it very clear from the beginning he never wanted the Amtrak job- and left as soon as he could.
He only stayed on long enough to teach the no-nothing Anderson what a passenger train was.

Here's what former Pres. Joe Boardman  had to say about Wick: (re: Amtrak safety programs)

"We had a program...that could help us with risk assessment, but Moorman killed it.
And the budget was wiped out for the Zero Defect Safety program at {New York} Penn Station under
Wick's watch

So that's why the...Penn Station derailments occurred.  Wick wasn't paying attention; he was only there
a day or two per week". (Trains Mag, March 2019, page 10)

Boardman did not have a good safety culture either. The derailments at NYPS were a long time in coming.

I don't think Moorman was there long enough to judge, but he knew the Volpe model cost allocations were bogus, as have most Amtrak Presidents, except Tom Downs, who most regard as another fool.
