Please pardon my ignorance, but who are the Chargers registered to?  Viewliners in the west... this will be fun.  Thanks.

You forgot "Chicago" in your quote.

It’s going to LA, then up to Oakland and finally back to Chicago.
The real test will be over Donner pass, especially— the longest continuous grade in the US— 80 miles up from Rocklin, CA to Norden.

Chargers are “slippery” as all get out— that’s what doomed the ex-UP E’s that were assigned to the SFZ back in the 70’s. Very easy to “lose” your wheel and make it hard going, indeed. Naturally, the powers at be are choosing the summer months to do their test — only a test in the fierce snow and ice of the Sierra will really determine what they can do in the end.
That’s okay — they’ll just hand them over to the regular crews and say “do the best you can” as they slip, slide and grind up the hill!

Please provide proof that the test will not be conducted in the winter months.

And that is somehow proof that a test will NOT BE DONE in the winter months?

You people need to get off your high horse and quit instituting and inferring everything being so damn quick to pass judgment.

Ok, I'll bite, two P-42's upfront, do they get cut off somewhere, or they are not online, otherwise where is the test??

I'm just guessing now that since the train is of relatively lightweight single level cars, not a 9 car Superliner, perhaps the dead weight of the P42's is to simulate the heavier drag of a real Cal Zephyr ?

From what I can remember from other trains and older tests for the CHargers, don't they have to be the lead units in contol to be considered a valid test? also you wouldn't need two P42 on that short of a train even if one of the Chargers quit you would have more than enough power on the train to run all the way.

Hey, ease up.  Rushing to judgment, carrying things too far and jumping to conclusions is the only exercise some people get!
