It’s sad and bittersweet.  Amtrak’s finally getting new equipment and decent funding but is being destroyed from within.

Don't know how Anderson gets away with it.

All this equipment!! - diners, sleepers, and now Bagg-Dorms.  All brand new - all stored in Florida..

What a curse this guy's leadership  is to passenger rail.

Why are we being so pessimistic? These will be great axle count cars in the Midwest!

The only way this can be a legitimate question is if you live under a rock and/or don't pay attention to anything.

Some abbreviations can be ambiguous, but not to know CAF is the builder of the Viewliner II cars is mind boggling. Especially with all the years it has been discussed.

CAF is not ambiguous abbreviation, acronym, or initialism like EB*, CS**, etc. "CAF USA" is the formal name of the builder. Would you prefer Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles?

*Empire Builder, eastbound...?
**Coast Starlight, cab signal...?

Thanks for keeping track of all the diners, baggage cars, and these bag-dorms.  Did you photograph all of them?

How did Boardman get away with buying this crap to begin with and not holding the builder responsible for repeatedly missing deadlines, poor quality and late deliveries?

All of the baggage cars should have been made as this or as bag-coaches.  I have yet to see any of these baggage cars remotely full.

Many agree with you, and have long made that argument! Full baggage cars - such a waste......

Despite a lot of huffing and puffing from Amtrak, it does seem they've tolerated a lot from this builder, and Amtrak has willingly gone along with an attenuated delivery schedule. At the same time, CAF was laying off workers.

Here's the OIG report on weaknesses and risks in the CAF procurement, which came out in 2016.

CAF has long enjoyed an umbra of support from senior NY legislators.  Senator Schumer, Governor Cuomo, Senator Clinton have all been associated with the rail projects in Elmira, Hornell, Plattsburgh, and Yonkers.

Inhdustrial jobs in "Upstate" are a huge political issue.

I missed one shipment of baggage cars as I arrived home from a trip to Florida that evening and the cars departed that morning.
