This is Amtrak Chicago's idea of how to repair the movable armchair in a (Deluxe) Bedroom.

It might be okay in a pinch on a milk run...

A management embarrassment for sure, but whoever the individual was that came up with that "fix" was pretty creative.

A cheapo UK airline called easyJet is giving Amtrak a run for its money...

The lady is sitting in her assigned seat. To be fair, she was moved before take-off.

These chairs are meant to fold up out of the way when the beds are down, but are notoriously uncomfortable when the fold-down "stop" fails and the seat tilts downward instead of horizontal.  It's either a design flaw or an old-age problem.  I've used a suitcase for the same remedy.  "Whatever works" applies here; irritating, but not a deal-breaker.  Also, folded up tissues or TP work fine to dampen rattles.

The Easy Jet seat was not suppose to be used until fixed. vs. Amtrak where they still put a paying passenger in that room. Also, hard to find a bedroom for $500 or less. More like $1,000 for a two night out trip. Sad.

I'd recommend a couple of wood shims and a roll of duct tape and most problems are fixed for me.

Had 2 washcloths jammed between the door of the partition in my bedroom on the Silver Meteor on Sunday. I assume it was to stop the rattling.

That's why Amtrak trains are silver.  So it matches the duct tape.

I always carry my standard Amtrak "fix kit" comprised of 1.  roll of duct tape, 2. 2 rubber door stops ( 1 large, 1 small),3. small tool kit ( screwdrivers,alan wrenches etc.) 4. 2 small bars soap. These items combined with plenty of extra washcloths and towels can overcome all wrattles and other commonly found flaws.

   In the last 4-5 years EVERY trip requires room fixes of one sort or another. Just the way it is. My last trip on 3/4 I ended up helping two couples in bedrooms on my car going west fix the rattles in their rooms which made me wish I had brought extra door stops. I became known in the diner as the " rattle whisperer".

That's the seat I want to be sitting behind: no chance of somebody reclining into my leg room.
 

Back when American sleeping cars were maintained by the PULLMAN Company the maintenance and housekeeping was always perfect,  I am so glad I used Pullman so many times.
