Passenger Trains > FL: Tri-Rail into Miami Central station?Date: 08/21/19 09:22 FL: Tri-Rail into Miami Central station? Author: Lackawanna484 Plans to link the Tri-Rail (CSX) line in the western suburbs of Miami to the BrightLine (FEC) line and downtown Miami seem to have hit another snag. This one involves positive train control. Local reports suggest the "late 2019" target may slip away. Connections at both end of the existing line have been made, but regular operations have not been accomplished.
Tri-Rail currently terminates at the Miami International Airport, with transfers to the vicinity of Miami Central via the local Metro Rail system. Under the proposed plans, some Tri-Rail trains would go to Miami Central, others to the airport. One Miami Herald report says the agency is looking at new stops along the new route, which would open up several under served areas. These areas have become very attractive to developers as a combination of regular flooding and congestion affect the lower lying Biscayne Corridor. Current Amtrak operations end at Hialeah / Miami, which is just south of the new connection to downtown. And just north of the airport. https://www.miamiherald.com/news/business/article229002739.html Date: 08/21/19 09:58 Re: FL: Tri-Rail into Miami Central station? Author: Jishnu Lackawanna484 Wrote:

Amtrak Miami Station is north of the Iris Connection, and the Airport is south of the Iris Connection. Iris Connection is between 74th and 77th St. Miami Amtrak is at 82nd/83rd St. The Tri-Rail/Metrorail Transfer station is at 80th St. And Hialeah Market, the station before MIC at Airport is just south of 41st St. Street numbers increase south to north. The airport is actually quite a distance away from the Amtrak Miami station in Hialeah. Here is a document to help get our bearings straight... http://tri-railcoastallinkstudy.com/docs/SFECC%20IRIS%20NE%20Ctn%20Fact%20Sheet_v4_FINAL.pdf Edited 1 time(s). I last heard that Amtrak wanted longer platforms before they moved out of the Hialeah station. Did that ever happen? If they turned there back to the new facility, maybe that might appeal to Brightline instead

Could you perhaps explain why you think they would become more attractive to Brightline? Why on earth would Brightline care? |
