Amtrak Surfliner Cars 6400 and 6401 question?
Author: John_Pacino

I am wondering,

Has anybody got any information on the status of the Surfliners AMTK 6400 and AMTK 6401 that were involved in the Strathearnized Derailment? What about Amtrak Cabcar 6900. Are they planning to replace these 3 cars? I was told 6400 and 6401 did not sustain significant damage enough to permanantly be stricken from the fleet. The cab car, though, is probably going to be in the next world waiting when we die, and ofcourse, it will be along SLO Sunday's Home in the next world, with the baggage room downstairs converted into an office for trainorders in the next world.

The aforementioned cars are in LA behind the Roundhou...where the roundhouse used to be. No report on condition.

(by the way, LA is short for Los Angeles, which is in California, which is located in the western United States, on Planet Earth.)

Since these cars are still in production, why not send them back to the plant where they are being constructed for repair and/or replacement. Surely they could salvage many parts for a new or rebuilt car.

In this era of lawsuits for everything, these cars may sit until all the legal hassles are over and done with. There are lines of Superliners at Beech Grove awaiting a turn through the shop, after the legal department says so. Amtrak and CDOT will want Asplundh to pay for damages, they may as well drag SCE in for a share of the pie.

Hey kids...

6900 and 6401 are on the RIP track (behind the wheel pit, same location reported earlier...) B/O status

6400 was in "hold" status (meaning work in progress) on the wheel pit, Los Angeles.)

The word around LA was that the 6900 and 6401 would return to factory for rebuilding... legal reasons may account for the delay.

6400 was the first Surfliner on the property earlier this year, how fitting it was involved in the first "incident".
