Westbound Amtrak No.3 the Southwest Chief passing the site of Robinson, NM today. This was the location of a tragic collision between the Fast Mail and the Chief on September 5th 1956.

When was shooting the video I didn't see the semaphores in the distance or I would have kept the video rolling until the train had passed them.

Nice video, thing about that head on, it was preventable, I stil wonder what the fireman was thinking when he went to the switch and lined it and he knew his train was in the hole!

I guess he was only human, at three in the morning even railroaders who are used to working all hours can have their bad moments.

Got this shot near Wagon Mound from the passenger seat of our car doing 75 along the Interstate.

If you look in the weeds there at the point of impact, there are still bits of metal, ceramic and safety glass in the dirt. That accident had long-term implications, as it spawned the rule to stand opposite the side of the switchstand that was taught to me when I railroaded, likely still is today. === === = === JLH

Found an old bent spike in the dirt that may have been there since the accident.

Two regular Superliner Sleepers and two Superliner coaches. I know the train can pick up additional patronage - if Amtrak allows for it, and would market it accordingly. between Kansas City and Chicago. Does ridership between ABQ and LA ever warrant an additional coach (or sleeper) during a particular season? Surprised there's not some peak/seasonal demand to/from Flagstaff on account of Sedona or Grand Canyon. 

I also think, with the North Arizona Uni 
Flagstaff, itself has exploded over the past few years.
I been watching the Flagstaff Camera. And had been seeing tons of passengers
Boarding the Chief at the Station.

If it's westbound, it's No. 3. The video shows the adjacent road (I-25 frontage road) and semaphores in the distance to the south (west by timetable). As the train moves from left to right it means it's westbound #3.

Yes the train was heading geographic south from raton towards las vegas
