Sunset Limited 2(23) vs. Semi, Cibolo TX
Author: GenePoon

Maybe I blinked and missed it but on Tuesday 25FEB, Sunset Limited 2(23) crashed into a tractor-trailer rig on a crossing at Cibolo, TX.  The truck driver narrowly escaped.

The train had been essentially on time; lost about 3 1/2 hours as a result of the collision.

The truck high-centered but apparently the driver had been told by his dispatcher to use that route, which may have saved his job.

Article in the Daily Mail (London) includes a very good video which is worth watching even if this story was already posted someplace:

Watched the video. Driver was a hi-steppin'.

One of the comments:
"This is by my house. That crossing is on a hill and semi trucks frequently get stuck. There is a sign that says "NO TRUCKS" on that crossing because the grade of the crossing is too steep. They don't listen. Trucks get stuck at least 6-10 times a year"

...but not his CDL...which might affect his job. Trucker or rail, when ordered to violate, REFUSE.

I agree, never liked how even places like Wal Mart preaches safety 1ST, but sure in Hell don't follow it!

Looks like a dirt haul trailer. Simmilar to the one in Nevada a few years back. The California Zepher crash killed at least one Amtrak crew.

Wait until the lower cab Siemens Taschen Ratte with the cute tin groundhog nose tags one of these trailers at speed.  We won't be talking about Spanish and Tagalog warning signs but likely referencing serious crew injuries during collisions.

Time to repair the GE units because they are tougher and give the crew more protection!

Lead unit Amtk # 821. Some damage should be repairable, was picked up by # 2 yesterday and forwarded to New Orleans.

It is always sad to see some one posting something that has already been proven false.
