Passenger Trains > VA: Auto-Train beefing up for the snowbirds

The Auto-Train has been adding additional superliners over the past few days, after several weeks of bare bones operations. From a low of 33 superliners and auto carriers to today's 17 superliners and 28 auto carriers.  Today's 53 southbound had two more superliners than yesterday's train, but one fewer auto carrier.  Amtrak keeps extra auto carriers at each end, since the number of coach passengers and sleeper passengers will determine how many autos are carried. (A full coach will likely generate more vehicles than a full sleeper.)

Today's train also had P32-8 508, likely shuttling south for work on switching duty. There are usually two switchers assigned to Sanford, cutting away the auto carriers, spotting the coaches on the coach track, etc

Some of this may have to do with New Yorkers fleeing quarentine restrictions back home.  I understand the airlines have added NY to Florida flights and Florida's governor has ordered screening of NY arrivals at the airports, at least in south Florida.

Illogical.  You are saying that NY area residents are fleeing the quarantine there, just to be caught up in one in Florida for 14 days? Nonsense.

Illogical if one assumes that the fleeing New Yorkers actually honor the 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Florida.  Might just as well buy a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

If they can monitor compliance in NY, then they sure can in FL as well.

Governor of FL announced that quarantine is only on those arriving from NY by air, not those driving or arriving by train

No, they are fleeing plague central. 14 day quarantine with no plague is a blessing compared to staying in an area with 1 in 400 people already infected.
