Passenger Trains > More pushback against tri-weekly operationDate: 06/27/20 14:12 More pushback against tri-weekly operation Author: cabsignaldrop "Putting the brunt of budget shortfalls on rural America and its workers is unacceptable, no matter the circumstances, but it’s particularly egregious when Amtrak’s long-distance provided double the revenue of state-supported routes or the Northeast Corridor combined in May. If Congress is going to continue funding Amtrak at historic levels, you need to work to ensure this path forward works for places such as Montana, Nevada, and West Virginia alike."

It's kind of ironic that Manchin, who has a tri-weekly train, is fighting for retention of daily service for the other LD trains. He probably already knows how ridiculous it is! Date: 06/27/20 16:50 Re: More pushback against tri-weekly operation Author: ronald321 Push-back from Congress people in affected States - is the only way to stop Flynn and the "Delta" management team from damaging Amtrak.
Congress stopped Anderson and his bus bridge, Station agents, and elimination of student discounts, etc.. etc. Now, they have to stop Flynn et.el., from this tri-weekly downgrade. (Amtrak can afford it - Congressngave them 1.2B to tide them over) Did you ever ask yourself - why the heck, dose Amtrak's top management keep making these negative decisions, which Congress has to constantly over-rule? Date: 06/27/20 17:05 Re: More pushback against tri-weekly operation Author: Molino Isn't the CEO of Amtrak a Presidential Appointee?
Perhaps the apple doesn't fall far from the tree... Date: 06/27/20 18:09 Re: More pushback against tri-weekly operation Author: DivergingClear Trees and their apples non-withstanding, Amtrak's board of directors selects its own president/CEO. Of course, that board of directors is appointed by the President of the U.S.

If Pres. Trump --who wanted a ZERO budget for Amtrak-- had a hand in appointing Flynn, or any of the Delta holdovers from Anderson, then we can expect ONLY negative actions from top management. (they dare not cross Trump, if they want to keep their Amtrak jobs). Thank God, prior push-back from Congress has show they are willing to interfere with, and actually stop, Amtrak management. Let's hope they do it again regarding the tri-weekly downgrade. Date: 06/27/20 18:43 Re: More pushback against tri-weekly operation Author: ProAmtrak And so far they're only corridors and That's it, but this mindset was also when George Warrington was CEO, anyone remember when the threatened to eleminate LD Trains back in 2002?

As stated, they are appointed by the Amtrak Board of Directors. The four Board Members and Chairman of the Board are all Presidential appointments. Here are the names of the four current Board Members, Christopher R. Beall, Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, Thomas C. Caper, Anthony R. Coscia and the Chairman of the Amtrak Board, Albert DiClemente. They were all nominated by non other than President Barrack Obama. You can’t make this crap up! So please leave Trump out this mess. By the way it took less than two minutes to figure out the appointment process for the Amtrak Board Members.

Why isn't US DOT Secretary Elaine Chao in your list? Amtrak's website lists eight members and there have been two more appointed by Trump,.but maybe they have not been confirmed. Date: 06/28/20 06:34 Re: More pushback against tri-weekly operation Author: masterphots I doubt if any President, OMB, or anyone else at that level gives five minutes of thought to Amtrak, one way or the other. A very minor line item in a huge budget. Ditto for many if not most in the Legislative branch.

I'm reserving judgement on Flynn for the time being, but the current POTUS should not be directly responsible for the "Anderson damage." People can speculate on Chao's potential "direct" influence on Amtrak Board of Directors, but if the previous appointees blindly went along with her, that's definitely not the POTUS's fault, and points to the uselessness of the appointees from the previous administration. Irrelevant to my point. The post to which I was responding falsely implied that all board members and the president were not appointed by Trump. There is zero in my post about "Anderson damage." Transportation Secretary Chao presumably brings her views on Amtrak as a board member. Nothing in my post can be inferred to say that I believe her presence on the Board influences other members.
