I had the pleasure of riding the inaugural run of the LDL, the press run with various station stops for publicity, and an overnigt in Buffalo.  Lots of us rode the rear platform, including to AMTRAK officials, apparently risking our lives in the process.

No one has ever been injured while riding on the open platform of a regularly scheduled Amtrak train!
