Passenger Trains > Private varnish, is Amtrak now OK with it?Date: 10/09/20 07:09 Private varnish, is Amtrak now OK with it? Author: MoPac1 I am noticing more PV on Amtrak trains. Is this my imagination? Has Amtrak now had a change of heart? Does it now believe that passengers on its passenger trains are OK? Something else?

Author: Amtrak-P42 For the 100th time, Amtrak never had an issue with overall usage of PVs. They just required them to only travel destination-destination, no removal enroute unless of a certain mininal dwell time, and were more strict on the routing. Think they also raised the cost but I cant speak with authority on that. I have no idea why everyone thinks they were banned, they never were.

Author: joemvcnj They never banned them, but severely restricted where they could be cut and added, sometimes adding hundreds of miles to their trips. Many PV owners have retired their cars

Covid-19 is a big reason you were not seeing PVs out on the road. Date: 10/09/20 10:49 Re: Private varnish, is Amtrak now OK with it? Author: robj Not banned but messaging was pretty clear?

I don't recall seeing any stories about PV's in Europe or Asia. Date: 10/09/20 14:05 Re: Private varnish, is Amtrak now OK with it? Author: robj PHall Wrote:

Hmm, wouldn't bet on that but I think the evolution of railroads in the US vs the world. Doubt that any country had a dozen(not sure how many) private rail passenger companies in 1971 to provide PV. Bob Date: 10/09/20 21:34 Re: Private varnish, is Amtrak now OK with it? Author: sethamtrak 3.74 a mile and 2.91 a mile for additional cars not requirng an extra locomotive. It is 6 dollars a mile for an additional locomotive.
If your PV is cut from train 11 or 14 in Oakland, you must leave Oakland on the back of train 6. Train 8 will not pick you up in St. Paul unless the train is on-time. You can only leave Indy on Mondays and arrive on Sundays. If you leave Chicago heading to Seattle you must be behind the locomotives. You can only visit Washington Union Station on the weekends. Trains 5 and 6 have a length limit becuase of where the fuel pad in Denver is located. Seth- Date: 10/09/20 21:53 Re: Private varnish, is Amtrak now OK with it?
