Passenger Trains > Amtrak on the Ottawa Cut-OffDate: 11/21/20 14:52 Amtrak on the Ottawa Cut-Off Author: PVSfan For a few years after Amtrak started up I seem to recall the TEXAS CHIEF(LONE STAR) operated west of
Kansas City through Topeka and the SUPER CHIEF/EL CAPITAN (SOUTHWEST LIMITED) operated west of Kansas City over the Ottawa Cut-off. When did that change? Before or after the Carter cutbacks when only the SOUTHWEST LIMITED was running.? Went west on the Super and returned home on the Texas. The Ottawa cut-off was the worst track i'd ever been on. Rough and tumble, but we were going 90 MPH. Coming home was more sedate at lower speeds on the Topeka route.
