I'm looking at this deal but I can't seem to book it without a vehicle online. Are you required to take a vehicle or can you just ride the train? Or would I have to call to ride with no car? I would just want to ride one way. It sounds crazy to want to do this in the middle of a pandemic, but with the train less than 15% full at these prices . . .

Always  thought  a  car  for  people  without  autos a  good  idea. BUT  CSX  limits  train length  so  as of now  that  not  happening.  15%? Not  sure  about that.   What is  the  fare on   SILVER SERVICE??

You need a vehicle to ride the auto train. That's one thing Amtrak has always been consistent about.

There are occasionally $10
/ day one way car rentals when rental firms want to move cars to the northeast. April and May.

Rent in Orlando, drop in DC with 50 miles on the meter..

Darn that stinks. Was looking at under $500 for the entire trip without a car from MO to FL to VA to MO. Thanks everyone for the info! 

Southwest Air is doing deep discounts to Orlando.

Combine that with Avis car, Auto-Train and a flight back from Reagan National

They don't want your cheap fare to take away the possibility of a much more expensive car fare.
