However, there's enormous pride of ownership when one has a PV. -John Date: 04/23/21 05:08 Re: Hollywood Beach & Tioga Pass Author: cutboy1958 That HOLLYWOOD design could be usefull in this century. That literally could be your Viewliner Lounge Design, or even Viewliner II shell design in general (with some modification). Amtrak went from having an eclectic array of passenger cars - inherited from other roads - when it started out, to a utilitarian standardization. Even with the latter they can't realize that the 1/2 cafe and 1/2 business class Amfleet car with its leather seating is a car that should command a premium fare. It actually could be more than just a "business class" car. Frankly "business class" doesn't even make sense as a classification any more. Standardized cars are aging as a tough sell when passengers are wanting more comfort onboard, or larger windows, etc. Some passengers are willing to pay for added amenities if they are offered. Is it a three level class option that is offered - coach, touring, premiere class? You can still have a basic level of coach service, but then augment it with various "add-ons" or service levels that the passenger pays for. Amtrak is constantly stymied because it can't execute on creative opportunities. There are many opportunities that Amtrak passes right on by that would add to revenue. Amtrak has been too busy trying to subtract things, as a way to "save money" or cut costs! Amtrak could learn a lot from private car owners, but they have decided to shun them away instead. I don't consider myself rich, and I have enjoyed private car travel in the past, and hope to again. Most of the private car owners I've met are not what you would call "rich." The same for the riders, too. Jim Date: 04/23/21 22:30 Re: Hollywood Beach & Tioga Pass Author: JimBaker PV Tioga Pass rolled by Flagstaff Friday evening at 9:48 PM. One hour and 11 minutes late.
