Such a beautiful train. I've never seen it with an Amtrak car in the consist. Probably for crew. Shame it didn't last. Operating costs were just too high and many clients wanted and expected larger rooms.

Nice catch. That thing used to really get around- it could turn up anywhere! And, if I heard it right, it was a popular assignment for the T&E crews.

When I was working in Grants NM, the AOE was parked in town.  They had been doing tours out at several of the Pueblos.  I was looking at the train and one of the crew asked if I'd like a quick tour.  They were finishing up lunch and would be leaving soon.  So I got a quick walk through of the front section.   I think they said that they had servied Prime Rib for dinner the night before.  I would love to have had a chance to ride.

Westbound American Orient Express had Amtrak 814 & 805, P40DC, in Coal Creek Canyon west of Arvada, CO, 14 September 2000.  Train was climbing Union Pacific's Moffat Tunnel Subd.
