Passenger Trains > Video - Stephan Gardner’s remarks in BurlingtonDate: 07/29/22 18:24 Video - Stephan Gardner’s remarks in Burlington Author: DavidP Here's a video of Stephan Gardner at the Ethan Allen inaugural ceremony today. I hadn't heard him speak before....not terrible, but, not really inspiring either. The statement that the 1971 network was larger than today's in somewhat disingenuous, as passenger miles and frequencies are up considerably, even though there are fewer long distance trains.

I was just in Burlington, VT only weeks ago, for a short period, and didn't realize what the situation was with travel to and from via Amtrak. Thank you for sharing, along with your photos in the other thread.

I was expecting horns and a pointed tail and carrying a pitchfork.
But I still don't like what he's doing to Amtrak. Andy Date: 07/30/22 17:01 Re: Video - Stephan Gardner’s remarks in Burlington Author: ProAmtrak Don't let that decive you Andy, back in the 70s Amtrak actually was growing by leaps and bounds until 79, and I still wished they kept The Chief, one summer wasn't gonna justify ridership, I mean back then Amtrak didn't have the paitence to let that train grow! Today's Amtrak shouldn't just be corridors either, that's what he was trying to convince people, he could still care less about the LD Network!

He brought his young son with him for the festivities & ride. Nice touch! Once we departed Burlington he walked the entire sold-out train and spoke with anyone who wanted to talk; he was fully accessible to everyone with no handlers to intervene or 'protect' him. He clearly is comfortable in crowds & one-on-one. |
