Add the Starlight to the list.  Must be no spares in LA either as 14(4) and 11(4) will be cancelled also.

This seems to be heading towards a general curtailment of service - as in back to five days per week operation or tri-weekly.... Not sure how October is going to be any better......Amtrak has Viewliner Sleeper and Viewliner Diners available - Amfleet II's a bit of a different story. Seems like this saga is going to continue. If they could make the Capitol Limited a single level train set it would at least release some Superliner cars to add in to the Western LD consists that need them for capacity. Is it easier to get the Superliners stashed at Beech Grove back into service, or put some of the new cars stashed in Hialeah, FL in service? Amtrak has some Amfleet II's out in Midwest corridor service. Pull Amfleet I's to substitute from the NEC or low density Amfleets (business class) to outfit a single level Capitol Limited train. There's enough Amfleet cafe cars that could be used.

Perhaps Amtrak needs to start looking into some non-traditional answers to staffing theor trains for operations - at least for the LD trains.

Amtrak did a good job to think outside the box to potentially do a re-route from Albany to Schenectady. Need to start thinking about the same for labor it seems, as it's not going to get any better.

They've cancelled the Empire Builder on a couple of days and are leaving passengers high and dry at various intermediate points - can't re-book or get another reservation because subsequent trains are also booked up and not getting any capacity relief. Even if they added a coach and sleeper to the two train sets following the cancelled round trip, it would help (and pull staff temporarily from extra board).

What a mess........

It's easier to let the Superliners rot and the new cars sit.  Which is exactly what will happen.

Creative, non traditional thinking, at least in a way that's going to improve customer service, is not one of Amtrak's strengths right now.  Don't get your hopes up.
