Ohhhhh, So This Is What It Looks Like During Daylight

Number 7, the Seattle-bound Empire Builder, crosses over Washington Street on a 107-year-old overpass in downtown Spokane, moments after departing the Amtrak depot on Sunday afternoon.

The train was running about 12 hours late. The westbound Builders typically cross Washington Street during the 3 a.m. hour.

Lights up at night too... I love my new home... other than Amtrak service in the middle of the night.. I was spoiled with the Zephyr Reno to Martinez schedule lol.

Might you be able to shoehorn a drone above that last intersection to get away from all the wires and traffic lights?

A drone down at that first intersection is a good idea.

I started out down there, but decided against it because I was afraid too much of the train would be cut off by the side of the bridge rail, especially if the train was on a far track.

So, I settled on this spot. I wasn’t especially pleased with the wires and stoplight arms. This is the first time I’ve attempted this shot with a train on the bridge.

There’s an older building with an outside balcony that offers a nice view of the tracks with the skyline (I think I posted a shot from there of the 301 in February) but the fenced parking lot was closed on Sunday. It’s some sort of professional building.

I think the train was something like 14 hours late when I did that shot in the evening.

I like this shot. Ton's of stuff going on and the train is just another part of the scene.

I'm not sure how high you could get a drone there as it is under the flight path of Geiger Field to the west.

Actually, the complexity of the scene adds a lot to it. It's is wonderful. If the bridge was built in 1915, it has to have been restored, as it looks almost new.

This idea occurred to me, too, but alas, looking at LAANC maps, it appears that nearly all of downtown Spokane is within an area for which specific, advance approval would be required from the FAA. Except for a small area that appears to be just west of this location, it's all "0" altitude for LAANC purposes. (I don't know why there would be a higher ceiilng closer to the airport than there is right over downtown, but that's the way it is.)

Second that!  A city that kept some of its
charm and character... imagine that.

Neat catch, too.
