Passenger Trains > Avelia DeliveryDate: 02/05/23 11:47 Avelia Delivery Author: amtrakbill Date: 02/05/23 11:50 Re: Avelia Delivery Author: WP17 So it takes 3 P42s, 2 baggage cars, and a viewliner diner to deliver a new trainset. Says something about Amtrak priorities when trains can't even leave Chicago because of locomotive failures:-(
WP17 Date: 02/05/23 11:58 Re: Avelia Delivery Author: cabsignaldrop Hey, these new Acelas have an important mission! To be expensive paperweights and to look nice and shiny sitting in/taking up space at Penn Coach Yard in Philadelphia.

Date: 02/05/23 12:55 Re: Avelia Delivery Author: joemvcnj Meanwhile, they are running slightly more than their old weekend Acela schedules on weekdays - every 2 hours plus a couple of hourly ones.4 sets are being cannibalized. What are they going to do with 28 Avelia's ?
A little birdie told me someone in NEC management said the Acela market is dead - and got fired for it. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/05/23 15:02 by joemvcnj. We are in an era when pricing of public services needs a thorough rethink.

Extra cars for braking and spport staff. It's not the bags and diner are in use anyway. Date: 02/05/23 18:40 Re: Avelia Delivery Author: BrynMawr I have no problem w/ 2 engines for operational ease. Baggage car buffers? okay... The diner belongs in revenue operation although I would think it was very comfortable for the personnel.

The Acela market might not be dead but it’s certainly not what it used to be. Telework is big now. Airplane tickets are cheaper. Business travel is down. Certainly a lot of factors leading to fewer people wanting or needing to take the Acela. Posted from iPhone |
