Passenger Trains > Brightline 110mph tests

Beginning 3-28 and for about a week from 7am to 7pm Brightline will be test tracks at 110mph in Brevard County

The Cocoa Railcam should capture this test. This same railcam can see the frequent rocket launches that take place at the Kennedy space center

There are over 150 grade crossings from Miami to Cocoa and the mileage is about 160 miles.

Hopefully the added gates and protection will make a difference.  But you can't fix stupid

Why should they do that? It would cost money.

110 mph with crossings with a elderly population and a young population that pays little attention to anything but their phones......great formula for lots of problems

I thought Florida DMV was supposed to do that. Are they proposing to offshore  errr ... divest that to someone else?

The pink set returned south through Stuart a little after three today.  Busy hour, with the local 920, and the northbound through train

Until we start putting barriers like this, the idiots will continue to ignore the flashing lights or go around the gates.

The Florida legislature is much too busy solving non-existent problems like protecting Confederate statues to do something constructive like testing drivers after accidents or repeat DWI.

Florida would do better if they had more enforcement of traffic laws. On a recent trip I covered 1200 miles of both interstate and non-interstate highways in Florida and saw exactly 1 highway patrol and a handful of local police. Not a single car pulled over anywhere. You can speed with impunity. Traffic laws are closer to a suggestion. I ran 300+ miles on I-95 with cruse set 15 over the speed limit and I was getting passed regularly.
Here in Ohio we have highway patrol behind every orange construction barrel so you have to behave yourself.

In all seriousness there is nothing that can be done about the crashes. Stupid will find a way. Just hope the train stays on the rail at 110.

At this point we've known for a very long time that psychologically humans will tend to drive to the safe limit a road is designed for.  If you design a flat straight interstate (like I-95 in Florida), people will drive 90+ mph on it and everything will be fine.  If we didn't trust this inherent judgement of drivers about their own safety in driving, the road system wouldn't work.

Are you bragging about living in a police state?

To bring this back to railroads, back in the day, the engineer used to be trusted to know his territory, and know where he could go beyond the timetable with regard to speed to make up time on the schedule. We often romanticize those simpler times.  Somehow its a victimless crime on a the road, and some states will even send you to jail for it.

and just how many drivers involved in accidents with trains or even other vehicles are actually licensed, insured drivers in registered vehicles?

what you mean by "problems."  To some or many people,
it is a "problem."

I believe Florida prevents enforcement of traffic laws because doing so would make drivers feel uncomfortable. After all can't allow anything in Florida that might make people feel uncomfortable.

Problem in the US is crossings and people just walking on the track never has been solved so we could have true high speed service doubt if it ever will. Overseas they have a dedicated route with no crossings at all overpasses or under passes for both autos and people.  Between crossing signals that dont work and truck drivers who cant figure out that the crossing might high center there rig and cars that drive around gates doubt if it will ever work.

Interesting that you appear to be unaware of the existence of the North East Corridor and now the Cocoa to Orlando segment of Brightline. It would appear that the problem as presented by you is solved in these segments exactly as they are everywhere else.
