Before the Winds
Author: MNR225

Time for a short drone flight before the high winds predicted for later today show up in SE Wisconsin.  Amtrak 332 arrives and departs Sturtevant, WI this morning (03-15-25) on Track One.  This train set will turn at Chicago and become today's WB Borealis to St. Paul (Amtrak 1333).

The old depot was saved by the Caledonia (WI) Historical Society and now resides in their park at Hwy 38 and 5 Mile Rd in Caledonia.

Am I the only one amazed by all of the capital and fuel being wasted by two locomotives on a short, five car train in the Midwest? The money expended on this over the course of a year would more than justify another cab car conversion, one would think What a way to run a business.

Meanwhile in the Summer Amtrak runs the Empire Builder 7 from Spokane to Seattle with one locomotive.  The route is over 300 miles plus over Stevens Pass.  The only maintenance available is in Wenatchee which is about 170 miles from Spokane.
