METRA Switch Engines

Can someone please tell me what METRA uses for switching? Do they have any SW-1's? Thanks

This is off the top of my head, but the last I knew, they had two SW1's (one was originally RI), and 4 SW1500's (I believe two of these were SP). There are online rosters, so those can help. They also use a CNW/UP geep at NW Station often to switch cars out, and back to the yard. Hope this helps, Jeff

They have:

#1 SW1 - Blue Island Switcher
#2 SW1 - 47th Street Switcher
#3 SW1200 - MILW Western Avenue Coach Yard Switcher
#4 SW1500 - Usually works the Rock Island District work trains
#5 SW1500 - Usually works the Rock Island District work trains
#6 SW1500 - MILW District work train loco
#7 SW1500 - MILW District work train loco
#8 SW1500 - New
#9 SW1500 - New

The UP side (Ogilvie Transportation Center) uses UP locos to shuffle cars between OTC and the California Avenue Coach Yard:
#Y728 GP15AC
#Y729 GP15AC
#Y1433 MP15AC
#Y1488 MP15AC

These UP locos will also run work trains on the UP Geneva Sub. Unfortunally, that CNW GP7 #4307 is history.

What info does anyone have of those unique curved-side ballast cars in the photo??

I believe these are rebuilt from Canadian ore cars from CN and Algoma Central. There are at least different versions that I assume came from different sources. Metra also lease CRDX ballast cars also of Canadian origin.

See the following post for some shots of a Metra ballast train I saw earlier this year.

BRC and WC have/had similar ballast cars.

TCS - and I like 'em.
