Buenos Aires 2008 Part 2
Author: dwatry

Continuing photos from the August 2008 trip.

1) Roca line train in La Plata powered by a GT22 with very British style signals and trainshed. Most of the Argentine Railways were built by British investors, thus the resemblance.
2) Another Roca line train in La Plata.
3) Urquiza line Toshiba EMU train at R. Dario station, still in FA colors. The Urquiza line is standard-gauged (rare for Argentina), and this is the line that was populated by ex-Pacific Electric and ex-Key System cars in the early 1960s.

From R Dario station on the Urquiza line, I walked over to the Hurlingham station on the San Martin line, which is another 5'6" broad gauge line.

4) San Martin line train with a GT22 outbound at Hurlingham.
5) Trains passing at Hurlingham - outbound train has an EMD GT-22, and the inbound trains has what I believe is an EMD G-8.
6) San Marin line train at Muniz, hauled by Alco RSD-16.

For our last full day in BA, we took the Mitre line from Retiro Station to Tigre. Tigre is the stop for a an extensive resort area in the delta where the Rio Parana and all its various tributaries dumps into the Rio de la Plata. To see the resorts, you have to travel in water taxis or tour boats that stop at all the docks for the various restaurants and resort hotels. It's a fascinating place! Kind of like the Mississippi delta in Louisiana meets Venice, and it's all commuting distance to BA.

10) Mitre line EMU at Tigre heading toward Retiro, which is another 5'6" broad gauge system. Operating company is TBA, same as Sarmiento line.
11) Outbound Mitre line EMU set at Tigre.
