International Railroad Discussion > How to change the side of narrow gauge inside a broad gauge trackDate: 07/22/18 07:47 How to change the side of narrow gauge inside a broad gauge track Author: pedrop Hi, I live in a area with dual gauge tracks. Sometimes it is necessary to change the side of the narrow gauge inside the broad gauge track in function of something that can be an obstruction to circulation of the trains. A special device is used in this application called "Pombinho" in the railroad engineering words. Here in my town, due to the circulation of the log trains with flat cars wider than normal, it was necessary to install a "Pombinho" to prevent these kind of cars hit a wall in a curve in the yard. The job is doing this week and is almost finished. In general, the "Pombinho" has two sides; one to allow the train change the side and than go back to the normal side after to pass the obstruction. The pics show the "Pombinho" in construction here in EVP yard.

Pics taken with cell phone, so not good quality. These' transition' rails are necessary when a train or engine is reversed and the narrow gauge aligned the entry route. I will try to register and watch the first train passing through the device.

Date: 07/23/18 10:11 Re: How to change the side of narrow gauge inside a broad gauge t Author: pedrop Yes, speed restriction of 20 km/h while crossing the 200 meters long device.
