Can’t speak to the use of EoT devices, but helpers are typically manned and there is no DPU usage that I know of currently. Most heavy trains use a multi-section locomotive on the head end with one added on the rear when needed (such as on the Baikal-Amur line). That said, Russia seems to love multi-section locomotives.
