International Railroad Discussion > Panama Canal snapshotsDate: 12/18/19 16:06 Panama Canal snapshots Author: tevillo27 Please enjoy these photos taken earlier this month during a southbound transit of the Panama Canal on a cruise ship.
1. Approaching the Gatun Locks, this shows the impressive elevation change between sea level and Gatun Lake (about 87 feet). 2. Close-up of the locomotives working the northbound oil product tanker High Courage. The crew on the bow provide nice perspective. 3. Locomotive tied to our starboard stern makes the climb. Here are a few more. They show some of the locomotives tied to dry bulk carriers northbound in the Gatun Locks. First one shows the SSI Privilege, the next two show the LMZ Francisco. Date: 12/21/19 12:50 Re: Panama Canal snapshots Author: sums007 I signed up for a half-day tour out of Panama City. We sailed back south on the southern end of canal. Frankly, that was enough for me. Seen one lock, seen 'em all!
