Looking at the picture of the Jaffa-Jerusalem line... That's how to properly "rail bank" a line in my opinion.

There's a railroad map on this site. The line originall ran from Damascus to Haifa, and on to Medina.

If you can get hold of it I recommend The Railways of Palestine and Israel by Paul Cottrell, Tourret Publishing 1984. You may be able to get a second-hand copy.
