International Railroad Discussion > More International Railway Station Photos Part 1

This forum has been quite lately. So as some have requested, here are more international stations that can be identified by signage so thus were not included in the previous "where is it" series. International is defined as not being in North America or Europe. Here goes with the first one. Its Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia. That was a stop on the Golden Eagle Trans Siberian Express Trip (search for previous thread if interested). The train dropped down off the main line to Mongolia for  a day's tour of the capital city. I'll post more until I run out which shouldn't take too long.

What I first noticed about the station is that the building is formal but plain, large, and well maintained.
Am guessing first Photo 1 is "trackside" and Photo 2 photo is "streetside".

Yes photo with umbrella is track side. I should have reversed them. 

It is interesting that the lower sign doesn't say PECTOPAH.
 

Isn't that  Russian for restaurant?  Not sure what thta is in Mongolian language.

Indeed it is.

And out of curiosity I looked up "restaurant" in Mongolian on Google Translate and it turns out that it is "zoogiin gazar", or, in Cyrillic, "​зоогийн газар", i.e. exactly the phrase shown in yellow underneath the word "restaurant" on the station. Go figure ;-)

The first picture is trackside and the second streetside.

I don't think I remember seeing the mongolian words for restaurant, it was always Russian. It seems that they use Russian names for a lot of things. Mongolia never went though the same sort of clensing of thing Soviet and Russian that other ex-Soviet republics.
