International Railroad Discussion > Cast iron O382 in Nova Granja ( Brazil)Date: 08/18/22 19:34 Cast iron O382 in Nova Granja ( Brazil) Author: pedrop Hi, yesterday (08/17) I visited Nova Granja yard (ERE), five kilometers from Vespasiano (EVP). The station is abandonned, but the yard have three industrial branches that are managed by the crew based in EVP. There are two branches for lime and one for limestone and steel. In this visited, I just stayed for a few minutes to watch MRS cast iron train O382 run through the yard.
1) Part of the yard seen from East to West; 2 - 3) The "modern" Nova Granja station survived less than the original one from the steam days that was located in front of this "new". Date: 08/19/22 08:46 Re: Cast iron O382 in Nova Granja ( Brazil) Author: pedrop Yes, they don't. The reason is because this train usually is vandalized by thieves when reach Gameleira sidind (EGM), that is one siding before to enter MRS system in Barreiro yard (FBO). So, MRS uses to park this train in Belo Horizonte corridor to run it after midnight to FBO with its own police.

Interesting to see all the old equipment inside the station. Nice video of the heavy cast iron train.

The station building roof panel looks like it was once part of a freight car. Date: 08/19/22 14:36 Re: Cast iron O382 in Nova Granja ( Brazil) Author: pedrop Hi, that roof panel is made of cement and asbestos tiles. Note that part of it was broken by vandals.
