IAIS steam on the move today
Author: AndyBrown

I followed the deadhead move from Newton this morning; a good day to be out!

First photo is checking bearings at Kellogg, just east of Newton; 2nd and 3rd are the awesome runby at Homestead after the yard stop at South Amana.

Nice shots, Andy.  I like the way that engine looks after being "Americanized" and given the IAIS touch.  Classy unit!

That engine would really great without the elephant ears;  and what's with the red lightning stripe?

Nice coverage Andy.  It looks like you had some wonderful Spring weather for your chase.

Thanks for all the kind remarks!

I think the stripe was added to kind of tie the unit in with the Gevos, since they have a similar Z-stripe.

Steam engines are a lot of things, but they're not "units."

Nice work there Andy. Did your car make it back to Wilton in decent shape?

That’s a great look for that engine. Just the right touch of Americanization. And keep the elephant ears!

Thanks for chasing this one for all of us who couldn't make it back Andy.  I really wanted to, but couldn't make it work out this year.  Also glad to see you guys finally get a day that's not raining.

Yes I MacGyvered it with a couple of nylon straps from Menards in Altoona; if I hit the brakes too hard the rear tire would rub on the fender but otherwise we survived.  I'm thinking about a permanent fix now, but glad to be home!
