Western Railroad Discussion > Mojave Northern Afternoon (Victorville CA)Date: 02/16/20 17:30 Mojave Northern Afternoon (Victorville CA) Author: erielackawanna Back on February 1, a friend and I spent the afternoon chasing up and down the Mojave Northern in hopes of catching a bit of variety. As it turned out, it was a day to mostly see the ex UP SD60, but was still a blast. Ran into two other fans out there who were a great help (many thanks for the heads ups, guys).
Images one, two and three, are all of a loaded coal train heading to the Black Mountain Quarry along Quarry Road. Date: 02/16/20 17:32 Re: Mojave Northern Afternoon (Victorville CA) Author: erielackawanna Two hours later, images four, five and six are of the empty coal train heading back along Quarry Road towards the plant.
Date: 02/16/20 17:33 Re: Mojave Northern Afternoon (Victorville CA) Author: erielackawanna Images seven, eight and nine are of the train now approaching the plant running down Victor Valley and crossing Bell Mountain Wash.
Date: 02/16/20 17:36 Re: Mojave Northern Afternoon (Victorville CA) Author: erielackawanna Image ten is of the train pulling into the plant.
Image eleven is the now light SD60 moving around the plant trackage. Image twelve is of the plant's SDP35 sitting in a spot I believe it's been sitting in for some time now. Date: 02/16/20 17:37 Re: Mojave Northern Afternoon (Victorville CA) Author: erielackawanna Image thirteen is of the SD60 passing the SDP35.
Images fourteen and fifteen are of an empty mine train now running back up towards Black Mountain Quarry just after sunset. Date: 02/16/20 17:38 Re: Mojave Northern Afternoon (Victorville CA) Author: erielackawanna Images sixteen and seventeen are two more of the empty mine train running back up towards Black Mountain Quarry just after sunset.

It appears the train runs from Victorville late Friday night or Saturday morning. 110 cars should weigh in at about 15,000 tons. I saw the train Saturday afternoon just below Summit. The train consists of aluminum bottom dump cars. They are being re-lettered at Barstow to CEMX initials. That makes three unit agregate trains serving the LA basin now - Cabazon to Torrance, Palmdale to Sun Valley, and this one.

switching the plant photo. Those images give a real feel for what it's like to chase the road train. Date: 02/17/20 16:16 Re: Mojave Northern Afternoon (Victorville CA) Author: ns1000 Great stuff..!! Thanks for posting.
