I'm staggered at the level of HP afforded this train - is this a necessary requirement to allow for an engine failure or timetable maintenace or is it a case of

"my train is bigger than yours ..."

Reminds me of the 25+ car "City of Everywhere" operated by UP during the 1960's with 4 E-9's on the point.

Anyone have the consist for this train?

Ticket prices were posted a month ago: Tickets for a two-day train trip on Union Pacific's George Bush Express.
The Nov. 19-20 excursion from College Station to Dallas includes a night's stay at the Adam's Mark Hotel, range from $250 for coach seats to $500 for dome cars. There also is a $35,000 "Rail Baron" option with space for 40 passengers on two luxury cars.
The train ride is part of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum's upcoming exhibit "Trains: Tracks of the Iron Horse," which opens Nov. 7.

Can anyone tell me why when UP runs it's excursions why do they put a power car in the middle of the train? Are passengers allowed to walk through to pass to the other part of the train?

No passage is allowed through the power car except maintenance people. UP does that to separate the train so the VIPs don't meet up with anybody outside their circle. Note the FOUR domes and the bizcar making up that part of the train!

I have walked through power cars before. They look like a baggage car on one side, and a coach on the other side. You can barely hear the thrum of the HEP generator...you walk through an aisle with wall to wall carpeting...a similar sensation to walking through portions of...say...a Superliner sleeper. Or maybe the narrow aisle in a dining car.

Not saying they allowed people through the middle power car on THIS train...but it is not as if you are walking by a roaring diesel engine sitting out in the middle of a car. I suspect many people wouldn't even suspect they were walking through a "power car" if they were to walk through one of UP's power cars. Amazing job on sound insulation.

Hey...BEAUTIFUL shot on the Trinity River Bridge in Dallas. How I hoped you'd get her here!!!

"They even painted the knuckle black , Lots of detailing went into this thing."

Which, interestingly, is an FRA violation.
