Nicely done for someone who hasn't shot video in a while. I have a couple of HDV camcorders and if my smaller one (Canon HV 20) is similar to yours, there should be a setting in the menu on the LCD screen that sets the audio to auto gain . . . which will eliminate the distortion as the horn sounds passing you.

But shoot the whole train. The railroad business is about the cars, whats in them, and how many; and the direction, symbol and locale. Without all these, the locos would not exist.
