Today’s outbound UP El Centro manifest was given instructions by Dispatcher 10 to stop at Estelle (MP672 on the UP Calexico Sub) to pick up 2 SD70M’s. Since I had never been to Estelle and always wanted to check it out, I decided to jump in my truck and head the 20 or so miles out there from my home in Imperial Ca. When I gassed up, I noticed the manifest train still being put together. I just hoped I did not have to wait around for too long once I arrived at Estelle.

1) I arrive @ Estelle and see both units sitting on a side track with other cars nearby..
2) UP 4002 & 5085 would soon be picked up by the MECWC..
3) I’m only there about 35 mins when the MECWC appears w/ UP 5380 leading..

4) MECWC’s 4 units cut off from their train and ready to add the 2 SD70M’s..
5) Units Added! .. ….Now time to get back on the main and back on the road..
6) I decide to head out to Niland Ca where I grab one more shot of them joining the UP Yuma Sub..

The 2 SD70M’s were set to be dropped off in Indio. Also of note was HLCX 3846 heading out of town. That GP38-2 had been working the Imperial Valley for quite some time and now it leaves us for greener pastures and hopefully cooler temps.. :)

Thanks for looking.. !

Tony

Nice shots, Tony! Good catch on the Gevo with the red frame strip, too. I always enjoy your posts from the "lesser" half of California (go NorCal!) ;)
