Local in Lompoc with a bonus
Author: 5524

I took a long weekend to visit the folks down in "The Poke" for Turkey Day. I had to drive back home yesterday so that I could get back to work but before I left I lingered around a few extra minutes to say hey to Jerry and the boys on the Guadalupe local. Then I went to say hello to a family friend in Santa Maria and happened upon the 1801 working the Airport Branch. I only had the cell phone on me so the pictures are the greatest.
1: The old SP Police caboose now sits at Boroda as the LOL30 heads into town

2: Guadalupe local takes to the streets in Lompoc(Laurel Ave and V St.)

3: Jerry is all smiles as the local prepares to shove on the White Hills branch.

Enjoy! Happy Belated Thanksgiving all.

Did you happen to notice if that lumber load was spotted at Hayward Lumber on the Airport Branch south of Betteravia Road? That would be the wide gravel spot by the tracks here- http://goo.gl/maps/v5Agj Not that often do you see cars on spot on the main, even on a short line branch!

Didn't stick around that long. I had to work that night and I still had a 4.5hr drive ahead of me. I did notice the HiCube box on that spot the day before though.

And you're correct I can't think of any industry spots I've made on the running track of a branch except the APU branch in Anchorage, AK. I think we spotted fertilizer on the main and the rail had to be removed under the car for unloading.

Hayward always gets cars spotted at the spot you are referring to. That is Hayward Truss, and they have another spot back towards town.

Funny about that Ben. When Iwent over age 60 before retireing, Jery read me the riot act for staying so long (just over a year extra for medical reasons) and SWORE to me "By God, the day I turn 60 I'M OUUTA HERE!!!!" Well, he's about 66 or so now, and I see he didn't quite get out on time.....

Now Ben, you must have been out of Lompoc for too long now sinbce you don't recognize "Post" siding, instead of "Baroda".

Is the SMV Airport Branch the former Pacific Coast RR narrow gauge route to Los Alamos?

It is, and the people who live across from the country club have been complaining about the increased rail traffic and graffittied cars. When reminded that there has been rail traffic since like 1888 their reply is that their real estate agent never told them this!

Isn't that typical though?

Ugh...I guess I have been out too long. I could point out Bray, Small, and delta Jct to you on the Way to Klamath Falls but I get my Baroda's and my Post's mixed up. LOL. I heard and I hope you got a glass of water and a good scare from Kathy! I'll definitely try you again next time I'm down there. My turn to buy!
