Yep, there's a BNSF freight on the Gateway Sub talking with the Dispatcher, they felt it and are following protocol, as in walking the track.

The USGS site is the source that the news folks go to.

Didn't notice anything in Dunsmuir, didn't even spill my beer (Lost Coast Downtown Brown btw).

BNSF has 2 trains in Almanor siding, one north and one south.

The NB was "on the hill" during the quake.....just pulled in now.

DS has told them to wait for track inspection.

Dave.....feet are still dry !!

Good shake in Greenville! One of my employees lives just northeast of Canyon Dam (High Line is up behind his house). He has some crumbling on a chimney and all kinds of stuff that fell off shelves onto the floor.

Lake Almanor Country Club has no power and a cracked water tank that is leaking.

Lake Almanor Dam is a hydraulic fill, which is susceptible to liquefaction, and the ongoing aftershocks aren't helping any. Lets hope North Fork Feather River, Lake Oroville and Oroville City don't see a sudden rise in water levels tonight.

I lived in Grass Valley, CA, during the early 1970's. We really felt earthquakes there because the ground beneath us was riddled with gold mines that were filled with water.

In the same way, anyone who lives on a big aquifer, such as the Central Valley, is in for a roll when the earth begins to move.

My earthquake app shows the epicenter of this 5.7 quake to be almost directly below Almanor siding. And a large aftershock was centered almost directly below the dam. I doubt the dam is in any danger since there has been substantial work to buttress the dam's upstream and downstream sides. But the outlet tower and outlet tunnel might have suffered some damage. I'm sure PG&E will be doing an extensive investigation.

The location of this quake is in an area that rarely experiences earthquakes.
