3 SD45's and a mid train helper set on Mullan Pass
Author: jigbobby

3 SD45's and 4 mid-train ACe helpers lift a long manifest across Greenhorn Trestle and up Mullan Pass. I apologize for clipping the end of the train. Had to get under the 6 minute limit. Where to cut? In the middle or the end? Suggestions gladly accepted.

A real quandry!!!
My suggestion would be to post it as two separate clips ...
End the first one between the 2:45 and 2:59 mark, and then have the second clip start about five seconds before the end of the first clip so that people can easily see how and why you cut it at that point.

There are times that a much longer length would be so helpful.

By the way ... beautifully shot! I loved the way you panned with the power at the beginning all the way around the curve, across the trestle and then as it headed off into the distance.

Thanks for posting!

Im usually not a big video fan but this one is exceptional. Good camera work and perfect pans . You really felt as if you were trackside.

Jigbobby,

Your videos are brilliant and it is in no small part that you gather great sounds from the subject. You must have a very good microphone that focusses on the object being videoed

Another amazing addition to T.O. vids! Just perfectly captured here!
Is that a Nathan P3 on the second SD45? And are these true 45's or 40's inside?

Thanks Gandy,
This was filmed with a Canon XF100. Sound was recorded using an Audio Technica AT875r mic, fed through a Sound Devices MixPre sound mixer into the XF100. The XF100 has pretty good audio inputs itself, but the MixPre has an incredible limiter, which allows me to get good levels of audio from a long ways away without it distorting when the locos get close.

Wow, nice job. The overcast lighting worked out well.

Curious what equipment is being used, looks like a decent fluid pan head and easy access zoom control. Looked great full screen on 23 inch display.

The clips could be split by subject as well, cut after the distant helpers are seen. Pick it up on the second clip with the same distant helpers shot. As it is, the continuity of the whole train really makes a statement, interesting cars, interesting power in solid sets. Great stuff.
