Dakota Southern Railway; Mitchell to Rapid City, SD, line.  RailWorks Track Systems has been busy 2015 into 2016 upgrading the former Milwaukee Road line around Chamberlain, South Dakota.

1-Bridge over Missouri River was built 1953 by US Army Corps of Engineers.  Koppers had replaced ties and installed new wood walkway on the two truss and deck bridge.  Sunset with boats May 16, 2016 west of Chamberlain, South Dakota.

2-Dakota Southern Railway 213, Alco C420, stored with other out of service units at Chamberlain, SD, May 16, 2016.

3-UP 6925, DDA40X, stored and used for parts at Chamberlain, South Dakota.  Track upgraded from ex-Milwaukee Road 60-pound rail to 132 & 136-pound 2015-2016.  Note discarded ties at right.  RailWorks Track Systems doing upgrade.

The track is being rebuilt by Dakota Southern Railway to serve a new Wheat Growers agronomy services and shuttle loader facility complex at Kennebec, SD, along a segment of the state-owned line.  In Fall 2014 Dakota Southern received a $12.7 million Federal Tiger grant to help fund the $29.9 million rebuild.  South Dakota Wheat Growers started construction on its $40 million facility in 2014 and was nearing completion in 2016.  Wheat Growers Kennebec, SD, loop track roadbed is graded and track laying begins June 2016.

Amen brother!  Totally agree.

If you have the $$$ make an offer and maybe the Dakota Southern would part with the 213.  She's in remarably good shape on the exterior.  Long Island RR Alco looking for a good home!?!
