On Friday February 24th I wondered over to the not so busy El Reno, OK area on the former Rock Island, now Enid Sub. Besides catching AT&L there was still some afternoon UP traffic that was pretty easy to chase.

1) The first UP freight is a northbound FWWT-23 with a mix of power including a leased GMTX just north of El Reno

2) The lead unit passes a searchlight as a bird doesn't seem to be bothered by the passing train

3) The rear of the freight moving on north

4) Next is a southbound grain train GWAHO that met the freight at Kingfisher, OK, coming into Okarche

5&6) After hustling down south in pursuit of another train, I got to Chickasha just after a meet occured and decided to go after the northbound FWWT-24, a short freight with a pair of SD70s shot north of Chickasha at a seldomly used road crossing. It appears the lead unit got a new axle recently

7) Same location, across the field to the left of the crossing

8) Around Pocasset, the northbound moves easily through the flatness

9) Got this shot by accident as I was unaware of the "tree" behind be, while the train heads for the windmills which were working pretty hard that day

10) And towards the end was this MILW hopper in decent shape

11&12) A view of the plains of Oklahoma, while the SD70s approach the end of their track warrent for a meet

13) And finally the train reaches Minco, OK one headlight bulb later

14) The grain train is patiently waiting on the main while the freight diverges into the hole

15) A little greed shot after the meet, as I happened to be beside them several minutes before sunset on highway 81

Great photo coverage PQM---I've actually shot at that seldonb used road crossing a mile south of Pocasset.  Several miles in that area is very nice for wide angle terrain photos as you example indicate.

Thats got to be one of the few Rock Island signals the UP is still using, even if it is just a distant signal now, and not the ABS intermediate signal it once was.

You had a good day on the Enid sub.  #11 and #15 are definite keepers.  The rest ain't bad, either. ;-)
