60 years strong! UP MOW gon sitting at Capitan on the coastline in CA today! I think I remember year limits on how long rolling stock can run! Thought it was 50 years back in the SP days!
When they are done they should paint out the graffiti and send it to a museum. Who knows, it might outlive us all, and just keep rolling! Ahhh the stories it could tell!

What a catch, Fiftyfooter! Yup -- she will
probably outlive a lot of us,. I cannot stand
that graffiti, though, but am glad that her
build year was not covered up. I agree that
she should go to a museum after the UP is
done with her. And, yes -- the stories she
could tell.....

Methinks we should pay more attention to freight
cars, as they are part of railroading, and become
quite historic in their own right. For instance --
I wonder if any RR museum has a preserved an open-sided
autorack? Or a very old tank car>? And -- one of my
favorites -- an SP Hi-cube boxcar? Those Hi-cube
boxcars were really cool cars.

I'm not so sure that is correct. The welded design looks a little newer, more like the 1960's

I saw that string of cars on the siding, just below the Refugio exit, as I was driving to Buellton on Tuesday.

u shuda taken a picture of the blt date on the COTS data.

99 and 44/100th's percent of the freight cars I have seen have the built date as BLT mm-yy. So Built yyyy is kinda different, too. idk.

He may be able to read the COTS data from the original, higher resolution picture.

Here is the proof this car is 60 years old! Looks like 1957 to me!
