The Signalman's Domain
Author: funnelfan

It wasn't long after pioneer railroads began to run multiple trains on a single main track that the need for signals became apparent. Thus was the signalman to become an ever increasingly important role in modern railroads. The east siding switch at Lamphire, WA is a showcase of modern devices that will keep the signalman employed today and well into the future.

Thanks Ted- congrats on IOTD.
Before I was an Old Porter I was a Young Signalman.
At SPTC in the late 70s. Many a time our crew replaced grade X-ing lenses, broken by kids with rocks, or other reasons.
They used to be beautiful red glass, before the tough polycarbonate stuff came out. I still have a couple
of 12" replacement lenses marked KOPP glass- found them at an antique store in Galesburg, IL.
