Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF Red/Silver Trio in California

Yesterday (2-23-21) a westbound [actual] Stack train arrived in California on BNSF's Southern Transcon with three red and silver locomotives:  2 700-series BNSF lettered and 1 600-series Santa Fe lettered.

They were trailing so I opted for a side panning view at Park Moabi, CA along BNSF's Needles Subdivision, east of Needles, CA.

The train stopped in Needles for a crew change and I caught it one more time departing from behind the El Garces Harvey House.   It requires luck to get a shot of a westbound train here as the view is often blocked by eastbound trains stopped for crew changes.  Luckily it departed about a minute before an eastbound Z9 slid in for a crew change.

That train pulled into Barstow last night right next to my train. The crew cut the three head units off and took them to Barstow DIesel. No idea what they replaced them with as I departed while they were starting the move.

That makes sense.  I believe the 3rd unit was dead as the 4th locomotive was added in Winslow to replace the lost HP.

Awesome stuff!  Those Warbonnets look great together.

That pan with the silver flanks catching and reflecting the sun was simply awesome!

In this day and age?  That just made my day.  Thanks for sharing that.
