Western Railroad Discussion > Pasadena roadswitcher in the golden hourDate: 06/24/21 22:59 Pasadena roadswitcher in the golden hour Author: oyw The last few evenings I’ve been hearing the Pasadena roadswitcher blowing through town between 7 and 8PM. So after dinner tonight I decided to try my luck by waiting at Grove Ave on the Rancho Cucamonga/ Upland (CA) border and sure enough, at 7:17 the train came into view. Between the long afternoon shadows, BNSF GP60M’s 157 and 122 bracket GP60 188 with 3 cars in tow for Pomona. It’s been a long time since I last shot this train, so this was a nice little treat. Thanks for looking.

With freight service west of La Verne returning this summer, we’ll have to see what kind of schedule they run.

You say, “Thanks for looking!” I say, “Thanks for showing!” Technically, from the looks of your photo, you were standing in Rancho Cucamonga. Only the northwest quadrant of Grove Ave. and 8th Street is in Upland. From your post writeup, I got the impression that line (the BNSF freight part) is out of service towards Irwindale. Did I understand that correctly? Date: 06/25/21 12:36 Re: Pasadena roadswitcher in the golden hour Author: texchief1 Nice shot!

Telephoto lens anyone? Date: 06/25/21 17:52 Re: Pasadena roadswitcher in the golden hour Author: SPgoletablock - Really nice light and power! Glad you were able to sneak away in the evening as I know your such a morning guy.

My gut is that he was on the EAST side of the street, hence, in RC. Why? I think he knew if he was to take photos on the west side of the street, vehicles stopping at the grade crossing might get in his way. I think both him and I have been burned one too many times and very much know better! But, who knows! The autos may have stopped, and he shot over their trunks or hoods … unless it was a bus or 18-wheeler … Date: 06/25/21 22:11 Re: Pasadena roadswitcher in the golden hour Author: oyw CustomersAlwaysRight Wrote:

Your gut is right, I was on the northeast side of the street and railroad and thanks for the comments. OYW Date: 06/26/21 20:49 Re: Pasadena roadswitcher in the golden hour Author: ABHoffmann OYW:
You may be interested to know I was in Glendora Saturday (6-26) and saw the rebuilding of the BNSF freight line as well as track that had been laid for the L. A. Metro Gold Line (wasn’t it going to be called the “A” line?). I was absolutely appalled at what I saw! Nothing like what was done Irwindale to Azusa. If you compare your photo of this thread with the freight and light rail track laying in Glendora and see what is being constructed now in contrast to Irwindale-Azusa, you may be appalled too!
