“America the Beautiful,” Railroad Photography & Purple-Blue
Author: ABHoffmann

In the famed national patriotic song “America the Beautiful” the expression “purple mountains” is wondrously sung.  In shooting railroad photographs an hour or so after sunrise and before sunset, ‘purple mountains’ is often present with an unnatural even more pronounced BLUE TINT in unaltered photos.  Even dawn and dusk photos seem to have that problem, sometimes to the extreme!  Photoshop, Elements, or whatever product one uses (if such is used) so often has a “Hue” adjustment, and by tapping that and reducing the blue tint an unnatural photo suddenly becomes natural and very realistic!  Try it if you normally don’t use the process and see if you don’t become hooked on it!

Have a great photo day!

The RAW processor in the newest version of Photoshop has thus far proven most impressive at getting those difficult shades of color to look natural (yes, that includes the flesh beneath a bikini too).
