UPY GP15's
Author: SlideSellerII

How many UPY GP15's are still active (not stored) on the UP system? They seemed to be everywhere about 10 years ago and now are very hard to find, at least in the OMA/CB area

TIA

A friend of mine in Denver has seen them in North Yard pretty recently. Also saw one dead-in-tow on a manifest coming out of storage from Grand Junction maybe two months ago

One or two of the rebuilt UPY remote controlled GP15N’s are still common on the Benicia Switcher, CA.

This isn't a comprehensive answer to your question, but coincidentally, UPY 705 just rolled past the Rochelle Cam on a local 30 seconds ago...

Catch them while you can, they show up on every disposition list.

Saw one this morning with a GP60 working a job in Dolores (Wilmington, CA). Sorry, didn't get the number.

UPY 595 has been around Omaha with several UPY 700-series. I have seen the UPY595 several times in the last month.

Considering that MP had over a hundred of them they'll probably be on the list for awhile.

Why does UP even bother painting units in SoCal local service? Save some money, just send them out in primer... They end up being treated like blank canvases anyway...

UPY 699 has been the second unit on the Chino Local in Southern California for many, many months now.

Oops, UPY 617 was one of the ones on the Benicia job recently. As described above, apparently no longer.  - Eric B.

A set of 2 or 3 used to come by my place every morning with a few cars in tow, later in the day they would return sounding really angry as they had a bunch of loaded cars in tow. They have since been replaced with a pair of sd70ms, not nearly as entertaining...
