Sunday morning I received a text saying that a group of BNSF locomotives and slugs that had been stored in Galveston was going north on the BNSF Galveston Sub.  19 units were listed, and I figured they had probably gone north through Sealy in the early morning hours.  A little later a friend spotted the locomotives in Orchard, so I drove over there in the late afternoon and found the locomotives still tied down there.  As I walked along the train taking photos, I recognized some locomotives from the list, but then was surprised by the 6326, and, not looking again at the list, I got the feeling that others I saw were also not on the list, which indeed was true, as there were 25 units total, not counting the big GE's providing power for the train.

I have processed photos for posting here on Trainorders, so without further ado, here they are (this post and 12 replies).  BNSF 7248 and 7667 were the power up front for the train, and 4157 was the DPU.

While several units currently have been assigned GN reporting marks by BNSF, only one unit, the 6326, is a locomotive that was owned by Great Northern.

I'm amazed to see these locos actually turning a wheel. I saw them in Galveston on April 20th, and never imagined they would ever move again. Nice catch. chris uk.

Good question for all the units.  There are at least three SD75M/I's in the group built for BNSF whose sisters ahve been rebuilt by BNSF.  Plus there's a rebuilt GP35, that 2600 number, that's fairly new.  Most of the rest, the SD45-2's and the GP30's I would expect are going to scrap somewhere.  Thanks for posting the photos and the histories.

Wow, what a collection steel and iron.

What is the reasoning for reporting marks GN and are all of those locomotives going to be scrapped?
