An 11 on / 4 off schedule is amazing. If the carrier doesn't play games. Call you at 11.30 pm on day 11 to kill day 1 of your time off. Once the trainees discover they are working every Christmas, Thanksgiving, Super Bowl, etc for the next 10 years they may have second thoughts. In my opinion, when the railroad itself is promoting it right at the top of their employee propaganda page, employees should be worried.

Ya…except that there are special incentives and extra compensation for all of those other people…not rail workers….well…yardmen yes, but train and enginemen away from home…absolutely not….which is so wrong. Uhhhh… those people have a goal of looking forward to accruing seniority and getting day shifts, weekends and holidays off. Modern North American Class Ones? Crickets. I’ve over 25 years and have… No weekends No holidays No “Day shift” No life I DO have A Ex wife. Children I didn’t see grow up. Parents that I can’t help in old age. Health problems related to stress and lack of sleep. Ex freinds. A love of alcohol. Anger issues. 😆 Please, don’t tell a Rail his business. Regards Posted from iPhone Date: 05/25/23 15:36 Re: UP-BLET Agreemnt Author: goneon66 i think as far as schedules are concerned, there is NO comparison between working the extra-board or a pool freight job on the railroad and working in public safety (police/fire).
in public safety, you KNOW what shifts you are going to work and can make plans around your shifts months in advance. some police agencies also have shift differential pay that pay more for working swing and graveyard shifts and also work 4/10 or 3/12 schedules. in public safety, in addition to paid vacation days, you accrue PAID SICK LEAVE. if you are sick or there is a family illness, you call in sick and still get paid. some agencies also have "holiday pay". as far as schedules go in this day and age, public safety jobs are a good gig............ 66 Date: 05/25/23 15:38 Re: UP-BLET Agreemnt Author: PHall Drknow Wrote:

So please take your woe is me attitude and stuff it. Date: 05/25/23 16:48 Re: UP-BLET Agreemnt Author: jgilmore Hopefully, this is a start in the right direction and I sincerely hope it works out for them. However, just for comparison, when I moved to Lubbock 5 years ago from Fort Worth it was mainly because they offered 3-on, 4-off every week (M-T-W), not 11-on, 4-off, as well as holidays off (or double time if worked) and several weeks paid vacation. Would I prefer to live in Lubbock after living in Detroit, NYC, DFW and eastern PA? Not really, but think about 3-on, 4-off for 1 second and it's easy to see why I moved. Haven't regretted it, and I'm posting this just for reference, they need to do something for the rails but this merely has to be the start IMO. I applaud and admire all the rails for keeping up with the brutal schedules, I for one could never do it...

If your platoon is scheduled to work on that day, you work. It's not seniority based, with the old hands marking off for Christmas etc and leaving it to the young 'uns. If your platoon works, you collect holiday pay for your "regular" work day Date: 05/25/23 18:54 Re: UP-BLET Agreemnt Author: PHall eljay Wrote:
